President’s Message

president-titel
I am honored to have the chance to be your president and can’t wait to represent you and the DEA. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to my fantastic team. In my first message, I spoke about Rick Simplicio, the first Hispanic Vice President, and Cristina Reyes, the first woman to be a member of the board. Now, I want to continue the momentum and highlight four more members of my team. The future is here — and Team DEA 2024 is ready to take “The Greatest Detectives in the World” to the next level of excellence.

The Next
Four Years

Over the next four years, Team DEA 2024 will move the union forward by looking at the oversites of the past and making them better for the future. Communication is at the core of our strategy. Grounded in the idea of listening to the union membership, your input will be sought because nobody knows your needs better than you. This team will be creating a variety of committees that include delegates and members, both active and retired. This allows us to better collect ideas from across the city and allows your voice to be heard.

Team DEA 2024 will be making new, strong relationships with executives in IAB to ensure we have details of disciplinary cases, making it well known that the DEA will be doing everything possible on behalf of members. CCRB has proven to have unjust findings based on poorly skilled investigators. This team plans to utilize new tactics when it comes to battling this agency, including the hiring of private investigators to follow up on the alleged cases brought forth by the CCRB.

Team DEA 2024 is now officially your team-elect! We are grateful to every Detective who showed support for the vision we put forth. It’s a plan to take our union to the next level. Our inclusive, collaborative team blends the vast experience of veteran union leaders and new ideas from dedicated members like Daryl Harris who will be the Headquarters Welfare Officer and is a 31-year veteran of the NYPD. In a history-making position, Cristina Reyes will be the first woman to be part of the union board as the Welfare Officer in the Bronx, where she has a vast knowledge of the borough due to currently serving members as a delegate in the 45 Precinct. In Brooklyn South, the welfare officer will be Peter Keszthelyi, a veteran member of the Emergency Service Unit and a Detective who brings vast experience to the position, in addition to knowledge about members assigned to the Special Operations Division.

Communication is at the core of our strategy. We will continue to seek your input because nobody knows your needs better than you. This team will be creating a variety of committees that include delegates and members, both active and retired, allowing us to collect ideas. In addition to creating new, strong relationship with IAB executives, the Team plans to utilize new tactics when it comes to battling the CCRB, including the hiring of private investigators to follow up on the alleged cases. The issues do not stop at law enforcement with this team, as we have already begun to make our voice heard on the Congestion Pricing scheme that will unfairly charge members and their families to get to work.
